Using a shrimp feeding dish

A feeding dish can provide a visible, accessible place for sinking food and leftover removal. It neither prevents overfeeding nor is mandatory. Use aquarium-suitable material without sharp edges or unknown coatings.
- Place it securely where you can reach it and shrimp have access. Avoid a position that sends all food straight into the filter.
- Offer a controllable portion and observe who actually eats. One crowded dish cannot guarantee small animals access.
- Lift it gently into a collecting vessel or remove leftovers carefully. Check for shrimp before discarding rinse water.
- Clean without soap or cleaning agents, and check underneath and beside the dish for escaped food.
Several locations may help with competition, but divide the same assessed total portion instead of filling every dish. Powder and dissolved material are not confined by a bowl. Fan shrimp cannot rely on a bottom dish as their food supply.
An empty dish establishes only that no visible food remains there. Check carried-away pieces, animal behaviour and the total portion.
Sources and scope
A dish is a practical observation aid, not a water-treatment product we tested. Sources support leftover control and the distinction from suspension feeding; placement and maintenance are editorial instructions.
