Feeding Cardinal shrimp from Sulawesi

For Cardinal shrimp, Caridina dennerli, food needs to reach the places where animals graze. Do not expect every animal to gather at one tablet in the middle of the aquarium. Keep useful colonised surfaces available and assess whether additional food reaches them.
Garnelenhaus describes Cardinal as a grazer on hard surfaces and reports that animals often do not approach deposited food directly. Finely distributed food is consequently used in husbandry. This is practical species information, not an established ration or a guarantee that every powder is suitable.
Assess provision where animals use it
- Ask the supplier for the actual species, existing food and how animals take it. “Sulawesi” alone is insufficient identification.
- Observe existing grazing places before changing the plan. One empty feeding spot says little about the rest of the aquarium.
- Choose food intended for the application and make additions measurable. Watch where particles settle and what the filter immediately captures.
- Follow intake, condition, flow and relevant water readings. Avoid accumulation without using “cautious” as a reason to ignore food requirements.
This species is kept in a warm water system, requiring appropriate management and attention to gas exchange. Do not raise temperature for feeding or dump in organic material to create biofilm quickly. Investigate water, oxygen and recent changes if animals deteriorate.
